National Health Center Week 2010
August 8-14 is the 2010 National Health Center Week, celebrating Community Health Center care for the nation's medically underserved and uninsured. This is a week-long celebration to recognize the achievements of Health Centers who are the family doctor to 20 million people in more than 7,000 communities across the nation. Ohio’s Community Health Centers currently serve more than 500,000 patients, most of whom rely on Medicaid or have no insurance and would otherwise likely access primary care services in more costly and inappropriate settings, like ERs.
Community Health Centers are medical facilities that provide quality primary and preventive healthcare in medically underserved areas, regardless of one’s insurance status. Our mission is to improve the health of our underserved populations which typically have above average rates of poverty coupled with significant shortages of primary care providers.
We invite you to join Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton during National Health Center Week on
Monday, August 9th at Charles Drew Health Center
Tuesday, August 10th at East Dayton Health Center
Wednesday, August 11th at Corwin Nixon Health Center between 10:00am and 2:00pm
to help us showcase the highly effective health center model of care while focusing public attention on a community-owned and operated system that is transforming health delivery in our nation. We are planning an open house at each of our three locations throughout the week, and would love for you to see the exciting changes that are taking place at any of the Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton locations that fit your schedule.

Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton has been selected to participate in Montgomery County Care.

Enrollment will begin in May with an effective date of June 1st. During the first phase of this program, only CHCGD uninsured patients will be able to enroll. Exercise is Medicine™
Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton (CHCGD), in collaboration with Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County, successfully implemented an Exercise is Medicine™ program. Exercise is Medicine (EIM) is an initiative focused on encouraging primary care physicians and other health care providers to include exercise when designing treatment plans for patients. EIM is committed to the belief that exercise and physical activity are integral in the prevention and treatment of diseases and should be regularly assessed as part of all medical care.
The EIM program began on June 1, and has focused on developing a referral path between the Community Health Centers and Public Health’s Healthy Lifestyle Center. To facilitate referrals, an exercise prescription pad was developed and distributed to CHCGD physicians and nurse practitioners. Research studies have conclusively shown that a recommendation to engage in physical activity combined with a prescription is more effective than a recommendation alone.
As of August 31, forty-five CHCGD patients had scheduled appointments and completed the comprehensive baseline fitness assessment.
